mid-century modern

We couldn't resist buying a beautiful hand-printed Irish linen cushion and lampshade by Tamasyn Gambell  from the New Craftsman Gallery in St Ives, they have created a wonderfully evocative mid-century interior with an exhibition of furniture, artwork and interior objects in their new winter exhibition 10th Nov to 12th Jan.

....Celebrating the impact of Mid Century Modern style, a significant design movement that broadly influenced architectural, interior, graphic and urban design throughout the 1950s and 60s , this special exhibition will showcase Modern and Contemporary pieces that reflect the era’s emphasis on function, utility, and sculptural form.

There will also be a display of photography by internationally acclaimed artist Andrew Lanyon, who’s brief sojourn into photography coincided with his years at film school in the late sixties.

Comprised of signed original prints on Agfa Portriga Rapid paper, this unique collection brings together images taken by Lanyon between 1965 and 1972 in Cornwall, London and Paris.

peg birds

Our old salvaged tent pegs have turned into a new flock of peg birds. We've used wire, blackened steel, printed and found metal.  Here are a few shots we took in the studio before sending them off to Galerie Handwerk in Germany for Artistic Toys. This is a great exhibition of an eclectic range of work from all over Europe - a great number being from the UK.  We'll post images when they send them through after Christmas.

a truly beautiful sunday morning in st ives

a pile of salvage

Couldn't resist these lovely old oak marquee pegs at our local salvage place - not sure what we're going to do with them, but like the idea of using similar elements to create a group or installation, possibly a flock of birds!  We have an upcoming show in Germany for Christmas, which is just the venue for showing some one-off pieces.

things which caught our eye in Berlin

We've just come back from an uber-cool few days in Berlin.  Our friend Matthew Harris gave us a brilliant hand-drawn map with all the hot-spots including best pastry, coffee and cake stops.....cake, cake and more cake!

The Jewish Museum was a highlight, designed by Daniel Liebeskind, the layout, structure and voids in the building gave an overwhelming sense of disorientation, the three of us got completely lost and detached from each other, all in all a moving experience.

These are just a few images of interesting patterns and colours that caught our eye.
Really vibrant art scene but very few galleries selling contemporary craft, the UK really does have a strong presence in this area probably amongst the most active in Europe, long may it continue.
